LCSC women’s defense leads to 77-52 win

2-15-08

HAVRE, Montana – In an effort to bounce back from an uncharacteristic loss to Westminster College at home on February 9, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team was all but unstoppable in its 77-52 win over Montana State University-Northern on Friday night.

With the win the Warriors retain their conference lead with an 8-1 Frontier record and an 18-4 overall mark, while the Skylights drop to 3-7 in the conference and 13-11 on the season.

Much like their meeting on January 12 in which LCSC defeated MSU-Northern 68-56, the Warriors’ pressuring defense kept the Skylights’ offense completely on edge.

Forcing numerous turnovers, the Warriors jumped out to a 22-11 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, and were able to expand their lead to 43-24 by halftime.

Junior Sadie Short couldn’t be contained by MSU-Northern’s defense, which includes two 6-3 forwards, as she scored 14 points in the second half and 21 point in the game.

In all, nine different Warriors scored. Breianna Gaines had 16 points, Mandy Troutt had 12, and Lacie Titmus finished with 8.

For the Skylights no players scored in double-digits.

The Warriors return to action Saturday evening, February 16, when they face the University of Great Falls. Great Falls, currently 3-7 in the conference, fell 77-76 to Westminster on Friday. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
