Warrior women claim
Frontier Conference
crown
2-28-08
HELENA, Montana – In
a battle between two
top-ranked NAIA
teams the
Lewis-Clark State
College women’s
basketball team was
able to defeat
Carroll College
81-63 and clinch the
Frontier Conference
regular season title
on Thursday.
No. 10 ranked LCSC
saw four players in
double digits and
was able to shutdown
No. 12 Carroll
College’s dangerous
perimeter game.
The win marks the
Warriors’ third
straight regular
season Conference
title and their
fifth regular season
championship in the
past nine seasons.
Carroll senior
Jolene Fuzesy,
currently ranked No.
1 in the NAIA in
three point field
goal percentage and
second in three
point field goals
made, scored 18
points on the night,
but was not allowed
one three pointer.
A 35-26 lead at
halftime was
created, in part, by
an active Warriors’
inside game. Senior
Mandy Troutt led the
Warriors with eight
points in the first
half and 21 points
in the game. Jade
Fulbright and Sadie
Short both kicked in
12 points apiece,
and Breianna Gaines
and Vanessa West
followed with 11 and
eight points
respectively.
Foul trouble kept
Carroll busy subbing
players in and out
and kept the
Warriors busy
shooting free
throws. Katie Hart
finished with the
game with seven
points all off of
7-of-8 free throw
shooting.
The win improves
Lewis-Clark State to
12-1 in the
Conference and 23-4
overall, while the
loss drops Carroll
to 10-3 and 22-4.
Carroll hosts
Westminster on
Saturday and the
winner of this game
will decide the
second and third
places finishes in
the Frontier
Conference.
LCSC now travels to
Billings, Montana to
face Rocky Mountain
College on Saturday
at 1 p.m. Regardless
of the outcome of
this game the
Warriors are the
regular season
Frontier Conference
champions.
