Warrior women turn over Montana Tech again, this time 77-47

2-21-08

LEWISTON, Idaho – Using its pressure defense to force 32 turnovers and kick start its fastbreak, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team rolled to a 77-47 win over Montana Tech in Frontier Conference action at the LCSC Activity Center on Thursday night.

The contest was nearly identical to their first meeting in Butte last month when the Warriors also forced 32 turnovers and won by 29 points, 76-47.

The win keeps the 10th-ranked Warriors in first place in the conference standings at 10-1. LCSC is now 21-4 overall, while Montana Tech slips to 12-16 overall, including 3-9 in conference play.

Tech managed to hang close to the Warriors early because LCSC struggled from the field. Tech actually led 17-12 at one points, but the Warriors closed the first half on a 22-7 run and kept it going in the second half to run away with the win.

LCSC placed four players in double figures. Senior guard Jade Fulbright led the way with 13 points, while Mandy Troutt added 12 and five rebounds. The conference’s Player of the Week last week, Sadie Short, posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and also added three steals. Lacie Titmus added 11 points as all 11 Warriors scored in the game.

Senior guard Katie Hart had a career-high seven steals for the Warriors, who have won three straight and 11 of their last 12 games.

Jessie DePell led Montana Tech with 17 points and five rebounds, while Kimber Peters added 12 points.

For the game, LCSC was 28-of-59 from the field for 47.5 percent, but was 17-of-30 for 56.7 percent in the second half. Montana Tech was 13-of-50 from the field for 26 percent, and was just 4-of-20 in the second half. Tech did have a 44-31 rebounding edge and pulled down 16 offensive rebounds in the game.

LCSC will play its final home game of the season on Saturday night when it entertains Montana Western at 6 p.m. The Warriors will honor their four seniors – Fulbright, Hart, Trout, and Vanessa West – prior to the start of the game.

LCSC leads Carroll College by a game in the conference standings as it goes for its third straight conference title.
