Warriors hang with, but fall to Idaho State in exhibition game

12-14-07

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State University’s Natalie Doma and Andrea Lightfoot proved to be too much for the Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team, as the Warriors fell in Friday night’s exhibition game 74-58.

Doma and Lightfoot combined to score 51 of Idaho State’s 74 points, and were able to put distance between Idaho State and the Warriors in a game that was tied 43-43 at one point in the second half.

The Warriors were once again led by a strong overall team effort. Junior Sadie Short just missed her second double-double of the season by collecting 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, Jade Fulbright had 11 points and 6 rebounds, Vanessa West picked up 10 points and 4 rebounds, Mandy Troutt had 8 points and 9 rebounds, and Katie Hart and Madison Mendezona both recorded 4 assists.

Doma, a 6-3 senior center enjoying her fourth year at NCAA Idaho State, led the Bengals with 29 points on the night. She is averaging 22.3 points a game, and has already been named the Conference’s Player of the Week twice this season.

Lightfoot, a 5-8 senior guard and transfer from Nebraska, ended the night with 22 points, and was 11 of 11 from the free throw line.

While LCSC out-shot Idaho State from the field 39 to 37 percent, and out-rebounded them 38 to 32, the Bengals were carried by Doma, Lightfoot, and, as has been the case all season long, great free throw shooting. Currently ranked the third best free throw shooting team in NCAA Division I, Idaho State went 20 of 22 from the line against the Warriors.

With the win Idaho State improves to 7-3 on the season, while LCSC’s overall record is unaffected by the exhibition loss.

The Warriors resume play on December 30 at 4 p.m. when Whitman College travels to Lewiston. This game will mark the end of the non-Conference season. Conference play begins on January 5 as the Warriors take on Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah.
