2008-2009 Warrior Journal
October 26, 2008
We are a society that places
great significance on time.
Our lives are governed by
routines that require us to
manage multiple obligations
throughout the course of a
day. Sometimes we become so
engulfed in this organized
chaos that we forget how
important it is to value
each moment. This has been
especially significant in my
life lately, for I am one of
the seniors on a talented
Warrior squad. With the
excitement of the
approaching season, I am
still very conscious that my
time as a college basketball
player is coming to an end.
We are almost into November,
and looking back at this
month brings to mind the
great strides we have made
as a team already. Each day
of practice is a step closer
to reaching that potential
greatness.
This week, five of our
players will pull on their
Warrior uniform to compete
for the first time. They
will run out onto the court
to the supportive applause
of the fans and community
that make this whole
experience so great. They
will feel the adrenaline
race through them as they
score their first points and
have to scramble to remember
what defense to set up in.
These moments will pass, and
the challenge will be giving
forth every ounce of effort
so that they are not wasted.
Thursday we open with Warner
Pacific University, and then
Friday we travel to Boise,
Idaho to play Boise State
University the following
day. Coach Orr has been
referring to these games as
our “first real tests” and
we are all excited to see
how our team will respond.
Looking ahead, this journey
we are about to embark on
will be long and difficult.
There will be moments of
triumph and adversity. What
is more important is how we
approach each day—with the
attitude that we will not
take anything for granted
and that we are blessed with
a wonderful opportunity.
