Lewis-Clark State blows by Northwest 90-60
11/29/2008

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Forcing its opponent to shoot only 31.7 percent from the field, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team rolled to a 30-point win on Saturday at the Kim Evanger Raney Classic. The Warriors topped Northwest University 90-60 to go 2-0 in the tournament and improve to 6-3 on the season.

After a back and forth first half that ended with LCSC up 42-38, the Warriors stormed out of the gate at the beginning of the second half going 6-for-6 from the 3-point line to outscore Northwest 20-9 in the first five minutes.

LCSC was led by the hot outside shooting of senior Kim Preston who hit 6-of-11 shots from beyond the arc, and finished with a career high 22 points.

The lead continued to grow in the second half for the Warriors, who are now on a four game winning streak, as senior Sadie Short attacked the basket to score 11 points in the second half and 15 points in the game to go with her seven rebounds. Freshman Jasmine Stohr added 16 points.

Also for the Warriors, Kenna Reiter scored nine points and collected six rebounds and five assists, Nikkie DePeel had seven point and five assists, and Kirsi Voshell had six rebounds.

Carleigh Newman and Colleen Woods led Northwest with 17 points apiece. Newman also had 14 rebounds. Northwest, out of the NAIA’s Cascade Conference, falls to 2-5 on the season.

While Lewis-Clark State’s shooting from outside started slow and ended high, shooting only 18.2 percent from 3-point territory in the first half but improving to 53.8 percent in the second, its performance from the free throw line never wavered.

LCSC went 21-of-22 from the free throw line.

The Warriors next games will come on Dec. 5-6 in a non-conference tournament in Helena, Mont. LCSC will face conference rival Rocky Mountain College on Dec. 5, and then meet another conference rival in Carroll College on Dec. 6. Both games are scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
