Warriors move up to No. 14
The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team climbed three spots to No. 14 in the final NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 poll of 2008, which was released on Monday.
The next poll won’t come out until Jan. 5.
The Warriors won two games last week to stretch their win streak to six and stand an 8-3 on the season. The Warriors drew 163 points in the poll, five ahead of Southern Nazarene of Oklahoma.
LCSC is one of three Frontier Conference schools ranked in the poll. Westminster is at No. 21 after falling seven spots in the poll from last week, while Carroll, which fell to LCSC in nonleague play over the weekend, dropped two spots to No. 24.
Union of Tennessee remained the unanimous No. 1 pick after it received all 12 first-place votes. Vanguard (Calif.) stayed in the second spot with 300 total points while Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) held its spot at No. 3 for the second straight week with 290 total points. No. 4 Oklahoma City and No. 5 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) switched spots from last week with 280 and 277 total points respectively.
The Warrior women are back in action this weekend for a two-day tournament at the LCSCActivityCenter. On Friday, the Warriors square off against No. 11 Point Loma Nazarene at 6 p.m. That contest follows the 4 p.m. matchup between Great Falls at Fresno Pacific. On Saturday, the two Golden State Athletic Conference teams switch FC foes. Great Falls and Point Loma begin play at 4 p.m., followed by LCSC and Fresno Pacific at 6 p.m.
