The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team climbed one spot to No. 11 in this week’s NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll as the Warriors prepare for their showdown with No. 14 Westminster on Saturday at the LCSC Activity Center.
The Warriors, 19-3 overall, remained one spot behind Azusa Pacific, a team LCSC has defeated twice this season. APU holds down the 10th spot with 228 points, while LCSC is No. 11 at 207. Westminster, 17-4, drew 185 points in the poll.
Union (Tenn.) secured all 12 first-place votes for the second consecutive week to remain at No. 1 for the 31st consecutive poll. Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) earned 302 points to remain in second place for the second straight week. The rest of the top five is rounded out by No. 3 Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Vanguard (Calif.) and Oklahoma Baptist splitting fourth place with 273 votes each.
LCSC, 5-1 in Frontier Conference play, plays host to league-leading Westminster, 6-0, on Saturday at 6 p.m. The contest will be followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. The first 100 fans who bring in an old Washington State University or University of Idaho shirt or sweatshirt to exchange will receive a free LCSC shirt.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The sixth regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Feb. 1.
