The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team fell one spot to No. 13 in the final NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches Top 25 Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
The Warriors lost to Westminster last week in a game that decided the Frontier Conference title. The win allowed Westminster to move from No. 11 to No. 9 in the final poll, while LCSC went from No. 12 into a tie with Freed-Hardeman University for the No. 13 spot.
The good news for LCSC is that the poll will be used to determine the at-large teams for the 32-team national tournament. LCSC begins FC Tournament play on Wednesday night at home against Montana Western at 7 p.m., but only the winner of the conference tournament receives an automatic berth to nationals. Still, because of how at-large teams are selected, both Westminster and LCSC are all but assured a berth in the national tournament.
The tournament field will be announced next Tuesday and then pairings for the tournament will follow next Wednesday.
In the final poll, Union of Tennessee remained at the No. 1 spot for the 36th straight poll. The Bulldogs received all 12 first-place votes.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents.
