Being only one of five undefeated teams remaining this season in NAIA Division I, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team leaped to No. 5 in the first regular season NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, which was released on Monday.
The Warriors, 9-0 on the season, jumped from No. 11 in the preseason poll to No. 5. The Warriors drew 259 points in the poll, which is one more than both Saint Xavier University and Vanguard University, who are tied for sixth with 258 points.
LCSC made the largest jump among the teams in the Top 10. Biola, which gave LCSC its closest game this season, moved up one spot to No. 12 from its preseason ranking.
Defending champion Union, 10-0, drew all 12 first-place votes to hold down the top spot, while undefeated Oklahoma City is second at 8-0. Azusa Pacific, who the Warriors meet later this month, is third, while Campbellsville is fourth.
William Woods (9-0) is No. 13, while Shorter (8-0) is No. 21 in the poll.
LCSC is one of three Frontier Conference teams in the poll. Westminster remained at No. 10, while Carroll moved into the poll at No. 25.
The Warriors return to action on Friday when they play host to the three-team three-day Warrior Invitational. LCSC plays Warner Pacific on Friday at 6 p.m., and the University of Great Falls on Sunday at 2 p.m. Warner Pacific and Great Falls meet at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
