The Frontier Conference didn’t receive much love on Valentine’s Day in the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 poll on Monday as both Lewis-Clark State and Westminster slipped one spot.
LCSC, ranked No. 10 a week ago, fell to No. 11 despite winning both of its games last week. The Warriors, 23-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play, received 220 points in the poll and swapped places with Lee University, which was 11th last week. Lee drew 223 votes in the poll.
Westminster, which was ranked No. 8 last week, lost to Carroll at home but fell only one spot to No. 9. The Griffiths are 22-5 overall and also 9-2 in conference play. Westminster had 231 points in the poll and traded places with Biola, which has 235 points.
It was that kind of week in the poll as the top two teams from last week, Union and Oklahoma City, lost but kept their top two rankings. Union suffered its first loss of the season but still captured all 12 first-place votes, while Oklahoma City had 293 points, compared to 291 for No. 3 Azusa Pacific, a team LCSC defeated earlier this season.
LCSC and Westminster square off this Saturday for the top spot in the conference. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center and it will be “Think Pink Night” as well as Senior Night. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of breast cancer awareness. The Warriors, who will be playing in their final regular season game at home, will honor their four seniors – Kenna Reiter, Madison Mendezona, Nichole Miller, and Laure Daling prior to tipoff.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences.
