KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team has been ranked No. 11 in the NAIA women’s Division I Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Preseason Poll, the NAIA released on Monday.
The Warriors, who posted a 29-6 record a year ago and won the Frontier Conference Tournament title for the third straight year, return all but two players from a year ago, including four starters. Three starters – guard Kenna Reiter, guard/forward Jasmine Stohr, and post Alyssa Fierro are all scheduled to start for the third straight year.
Two-time defending national champion Union was picked as the top team in the poll with 11 of 12 first-place votes. Azusa Pacific, a team LCSC beat twice last season, had the final first place vote and was picked second. LC and Azusa also meet this season on Dec. 28 in California. LC also plays one other ranked opponent in the preseason poll in nonleague play when the Warriors play host to No. 13 Biola on Nov. 19.
Westminster, which was picked to win this year’s conference title in the FC preseason poll, is ranked No. 10 with 223 points, one slot ahead of LCSC, which had 204 points. Carroll and Montana Tech received votes, but didn’t make the Top 25.
The Warriors kick off the season next Monday at home against Walla Walla University at 6 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center. LC will also play host to Northwest Nazarene on Nov. 4, and then take on the University of Idaho on Nov. 5 and Washington State University on Nov. 7 in a pair of road exhibition games.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. The first regular-season Top 25 poll will be announced on Dec. 6.
