The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team has been picked as the team to beat in the Frontier Conference this season and senior guard/forward Jasmine Stohr is the favorite to win Player of the Year honors in the conference’s preseason poll voted on by the women’s coaches, conference officials have announced.
Stohr was joined on the women’s Preseason All-Conference Team by fellow LCSC senior post Kirsi Voshell.
Meanwhile, the LCSC men’s basketball team has been selected to finish fifth in the eight-team conference under first year coach Brandon Renta by the men’s coaches in the league.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams or players in the poll.
On the women’s side, LCSC garnered six of the eight first-place votes while Westminster received two. LCSC has won four straight FC tournament titles under coach Brian Orr.
LCSC had 48 points in the poll, followed by Westminster with 44, Carroll at 33, Rocky Mountain at 31, Montana Western with 27, Montana State-Northern at 17, Montana Tech at 16, and Great Falls at eight.
On the men’s side, MSU-Northern earned five of the eight first-place votes for 47 points, while Carroll had two first-place votes and was second at 41.5 points. Montana Western was third at 38.5 followed by Westminster at 33, LCSC at 22, Rocky Mountain at 20, Great Falls at 11, and Montana Tech at 11. Westminster also received one first-place vote.
In the polls, a first-place vote was worth seven points, followed by six for second, and so on.
Last season, Stohr was named the conference’s co-Player of the Year after she averaged 18.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. She helped LCSC reach the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament as the Warriors posted a 29-5 record.
Voshell was a first-team all-league selection last year as well. The 6-foot-3 post averaged 12.0 points 8.6 rebounds and tied for the team lead in blocked shots with 63.
