WBCA names Stohr All-American; Orr Coach of the Year finalist
3/15/2012

For the second straight season, Lewis-Clark State College senior Jasmine Stohr has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NAIA Coaches’ All-America Team, WBCA officials announced on Thursday. The WBCA also announced that LCSC head coach Brian Orr is one of five finalists for the Russell Athletic/WBCA NAIA National Coach of the Year award.

Stohr, a 6-foot guard/forward, currently ranks No. 7 in the NAIA with 19.4 points per game, No. 31 in steals per game with 2.4, and No. 34 in field goal percentage with a 46.4 shooting clip. She was named the Frontier Conference’s Player of the Year earlier this month. Last year, Stohr was one of only two non-seniors to be named to the WBCA team, and the year before as a sophomore she earned honorable mention honors.

The native of Yakima, Wash., became just the fourth player in program history to reach 2,000 career points on Feb. 18. After scoring 19 points in Thursday’s win over Loyola (La.) at nationals, Stohr now has 2,125 career points and ranks No. 3 on the program’s all-time scoring list. In the Warrior career record books, she also ranks No. 4 in field goals made, No. 1 in free throws made, No. 5 in free throw percentage, No. 9 in assists, No. 5 in steals, and No. 5 in blocked shots.

The 10-member All-American team was selected by a vote of a selection committee which is comprised of one representative from each of the nine geographical regions and a chairperson.

Orr, now in his 11th season at the helm, led the Warriors to their fifth straight Frontier Conference tournament title and a No. 12 ranking in the final NAIA regular-season poll. Lewis-Clark State is currently 29-4 and playing in the second round of the NAIA Division I National Championship.

Under Orr’s leadership, the Warriors are ranked No. 2 in the national in field goal percentage defense, No. 3 in blocks, No. 6 in 3-point field goal percentage defense, No. 8 in rebounds per game, No. 12 in assist/turnover ratio, No. 12 in scoring margin, and No. 12 in field goal percentage.

The WBCA’s five finalists for National Coach of the Year were selected by region. Orr was selected in Region No. 1, Drew Olson of Concordia University-Nebraska in Region No. 2, Steve Brooks of Indiana Wesleyan University in Region No. 3, Dale Neal of Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) in Region No. 4, and Marty Rowe of Lee University (Tenn.) in Region No. 5.

The winner will be announced during the second annual WBCA Awards Show on April 2 in Denver. This event is part of the WBCA National Convention and is held in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Final Four.

Russell Athletic and the WBCA present the national coach of the year award annually in each of the five WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; junior/community college and high school). This marks the 28th year the award has been presented.
