After helping the Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team pick up a pair of league wins on the road last week, Ornela Bacchini was named the Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement was made by league officials on Monday.
Bacchini, a 6-foot-2 junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, averaged 23.5 points and seven rebounds in the two games. She was 18-of-26 from the field (69 percent) and 11-of-12 (92 percent) at the free throw line.
Bacchini had 19 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and a block in the Warriors’ 75-65 win over Great Falls. And in the team’s double-overtime win against MSU-Northern she led with a career-high 28 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
In the thrilling win over Northern, she scored 10 points during the extra periods and made the game-winning shot in the second overtime.
The two victories lifted the Warriors to 3-4 in league play (6-15 overall) and into a three-way tie for fifth in the standings.
Bacchini is the first Warrior to win the award this season.
LCSC, which has now won three of its last four contests, hosts two games at the Activity Center this week. It will play Carroll College (12-6, 6-1) on Thursday and then brace for a rematch with MSU-Northern (11-8, 3-4) on Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m., Pacific.
