LCSC’s Clemente, Greeny earn
Frontier Conference honors
Sophomore is co-Player of
the Year; Greeny is Coach of
the Year
11-15-2007
Lewis-Clark State College
sophomore outside hitter
Anile Clemente and
volleyball coach Jen Greeny
received top honors, while
several Warrior players were
honored with the
announcement of the
all-Frontier Conference
volleyball team on
Thursday.
Clemente, who is from San
Paolo, Brazil, was named
co-Player of the Year in the
conference along with
Westminster senior Angie
Johnson, while Greeny was
selected as Coach of the
Year in her first season at
the LCSC helm.
Also, senior middle blocker
Brittney Kubik joined
Clemente as a First Team
all-conference selection,
while juniors Cintia Alessi
and Julie Maciboba were
second-team selections.
Clemente also was chosen as
the conference’s Newcomer of
the Year.
The 5-foot-11 Clemente
transferred to LCSC from
Pittsburgh State this fall
after Pittsburgh State
officials learned she would
have only one year of
eligibility remaining at the
NCAA Division II school. By
transferring to an NAIA
school, she would have three
years of eligibility left.
Her coach at Pittsburgh
State made some phone calls
to coaching friends to find
Clemente a good NAIA school
and one of the calls went to
a friend of Greeny, who
recommended LCSC. Clemente
missed LCSC’s first match
but then cleared all
eligibility requirements.
Heading into the Region I
tournament, Clemente had
registered 258 kills and a
.293 hitting percentage. She
also had five service aces,
98 digs, and 23 blocks,
which is fourth on the
team.
Greeny took over as coach
late last spring and came
into a program that had a
21-60 record over the past
three seasons. LCSC was
picked to finish sixth in
the conference coaches’
preseason poll this year,
but ended up winning the
conference title as well as
the conference tournament
title. It’s only the second
time LCSC has won both the
FC’s regular season and
tournament titles in the
same year. The other came in
1999, LCSC’s first year in
the conference.
LCSC is 21-5 on the season
and ranked No. 20 in the
country.
Greeny, who played
volleyball at Washington
State University, was
volleyball coach at Pullman
High for three seasons prior
to coming to LCSC and helped
the Greyhounds’ win the
program’s first ever state
title. She posted an 84-12
record at PHS.
Kubik is a 6-0 senior from
Davenport, Wash. She has 205
kills on the season and
leads the regulars in
hitting percentage at .325.
She recorded 41 digs and has
team highs with 23 solo
blocks and 113 block
assists. She has played in
every game for the Warriors
this season.
Maciboba, a 6-0 junior
middle hitter from
Kennewick, Wash., was a
honorable mention selection
a year ago. She is second on
the team in kills with 225
and has a .271 hitting
percentage. She recorded 48
service aces, 91 digs, and
40 blocks, which is third on
the team.
Alessi, who is a 5-9 outside
hitter from Curitiba,
Brazil, came to LCSC after
transferring from North
Idaho College in Coeur
d’Alene. She pulled an
abdominal muscle early in
the conference season, which
forced her to play libero on
the back row for more than a
month. Still, she was third
on the team in kills with
212 and hit .208. She led
the team in service aces
with 49 and digs with 407.
She also has 23 blocks this
season.
Like Clemente, Alessi earned
Junior College All-America
honors a year ago.
Bree Riet of Westminster
College was chosen Libero of
the Year.
