Warriors place seven on Frontier Conference’s All Academic Team

2-12-08

The success of the Lewis-Clark State College volleyball team not only happened on the court, but also in the classroom during the 2007 fall semester as seven members of the team were selected to the Frontier Conference’s All Academic Team, announced Tuesday by conference commissioner Mike Walker.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing, maintain a 3.0 GPA and participate in one half of her team’s games.

Both seniors on the LCSC squad were honored as Marie Balmer of Fort Macleod, Alberta, and Brittney Kubik of Ritzville, Wash., were selected. Balmer, a double major in Education and Kinesiology, had a 3.48 GGA during the fall, while Kubik, a Kinesiology major, had a 3.04.

Also honored from LCSC were juniors Austyn Lewis of Middleton, Idaho, and Julie Maciboba of Kennewick, Wash. Lewis, an Elementary Education major, had a 3.03 GPA, while Maciboba, a Secondary Education major with a Math emphasis, had a 3.29 GPA.

The sophomores also earned the distinction – Lisa Davis of Genesee, Brittany Hall of Anchorage, Alaska, and Dana Christiansen of Idaho Falls. Davis, a Psychology major, had a 3.85 GPA, while Hall and Christiansen, both Elementary Education majors, had GPAs of 3.17 and 3.31, respectively.

“We are very pleased to see the academic success of our players last semester,” LCSC assistant volleyball coach Burdette Greeney said.  “We believe that excellence on the court and off the court are one and the same.  These high marks validate that belief.  To be able to accomplish what these individuals did in the classroom, while at the same time balance the rigorous demands of practice, games, and travel that a season presents is truly an achievement we are proud of.”

Kubik and Maciboba also made the team a year ago.

The Warriors, picked to finish sixth in the conference’s preseason coaches poll, won both the regular season and conference tournament titles on their way to being seeded ninth at the national tournament. The Warrior finished the season at 28-6 overall under first year coach Jennifer Greeny.
