LCSC sweeps MSU-Northern
to improve to 15-0
overall
09-19-08
HAVRE, Mont. - The
Lewis-Clark State
College women's
volleyball team again
came up tough down the
stretch to sweep Montana
State
University-Northern
25-20, 25-20, 25-12 in
Frontier Conference play
on Friday night.
The Warriors, 15-0
overall and ranked No.12
in the NAIA, improved to
3-0 in conference play
heading into a key match
at the University of
Great Falls on Saturday.
A win would put the
Warriors at 4-0 and
alone in first place in
the conference
standings.
LCSC is enjoying its
best start since the
2000 season when it
began 19-0 before
suffering its first
loss.
Against MSU-Northern,
the Warriors came
through at critical
times to record the
sweep, which was LCSC's
12th sweep in its 15
matches this season. The
Warriors hit only .120
for the match, while MSU-Northern
hit .116.
"When it came down to
crunch time we were able
to make the big kills,"
LCSC coach Jen Greeny
said. "This was a
defensive match."
Greeny said the match
was much closer than the
score would indicate.
She said the Warriors
took the lead and kept
it in the opening game,
but trailed for part of
the second game before
LCSC managed to rally
for the win.
"They are a very young
team with no juniors or
seniors," Greeny said of
MSU-Northern, which fell
to 0-2 in league play
and 0-10 overall. "We
were able to come up
with the key plays when
we needed to."
Junior Anile Clemente
led LCSC with 12 kills,
while senior Lindsay
Scott was credited with
nine kills.
LCSC is the defending
conference regular
season and tournament
champions, and also won
the Region I Tournament
title a year ago on its
way to being seeded
ninth at the NAIA
national tournament.
