BUTTE, Mont. - The best start ever by a Lewis-Clark State College volleyball team came to an end Thursday night when Montana Tech knocked off the Warriors 28-26, 25-17, 15-25, 25-23 in a Frontier Conference match.
LCSC, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA poll, won its first 20 matches of the season, the best start in program history, but fell to 20-1 overall, including 7-1 in league play with the loss. In its first seven conference matches, LCSC won all in three-straight games.
"Montana Tech played well and they were aggressive," LCSC coach Jen Greeny said. "We had an unusual high number of errors tonight. We had 20 hitting errors and it looks like eight receiving errors."
The Warriors fell behind early in the first game, but rallied back before Montana Tech hung on for the win. The Warriors did the same in the fourth game, rallying from an early hole, but couldn't pull it out.
Anile Clemente and Julie Maciboba had 10 kills apiece for the Warriors, who hit .181 in the match.
The Warriors resume action on Friday at 6 p.m., when they travel to Dillion, Mont., to face Montana Western. Greeny says it will be interesting to see how the Warriors respond following the setback.
"We'll see because we're in a position that we haven't been in before this season," Greeny said. "Hopefully we'll bounce back."
