The Lewis-Clark State college women’s volleyball team is slated to play Madonna University (Mich.), Biola University (Calif.), and Lubbock Christian (Texas) at the national tournament according to a release from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics on Sunday.
This year’s NAIA Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Morningside (Iowa) at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa on Dec. 2-6, 2008.
The final 24 teams remaining have been placed into six pools and will play in round robin pool play Dec. 2-4. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the single elimination bracket, which begins Friday, Dec. 5 and will end with the championship match on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
Lewis-Clark State, ranked 14th in the final NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll, has been placed in the same pool as Madonna, Biola, and Lubbock Christian.
The Warriors open pool play on Tuesday, Dec. 2 with a 4 p.m. match against Madonna which finished the season ranked No. 11 in the NAIA.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the Warriors will take on Biola at 1:45 p.m. Biola finished the season ranked No. 2 in the NAIA and advanced to the semifinals last season before being ousted by 2007 title winner Fresno Pacific (Calif.)—Fresno Pacific is once again the favorite this season, as it went 30-0 and was ranked No. 1 in every coaches’ poll.
On Thursday, Dec. 4 Lewis-Clark State will wrap up its pool play with a 1:45 p.m. match against Lubbuck Christian. Lubbuck was ranked No. 24 in the final poll and advanced to Sioux City by defeating Wiley (Texas) in three games last week in the opening round.
In 2007, LCSC went 1-2 in pool play and was unable to advance to the single elimination rounds.
