LCSC's Clemente is chosen to AVCA All America First Team
12/12/2008

Lewis-Clark State College junior outside hitter Anile Clemente continued her run of postseasons honors when she was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America First Team for NAIA athletes, as selected by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee.

Last week, the AVCA named Clemente as the Region’s Player of the Year and LCSC coach Jennifer Greeny was the Coach of the Year. Earlier this week, the NAIA tabbed Clemente as a second-team NAIA All America selection.

Clemente, who is from Sorocaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil, was a third-team selection a year ago on both the NAIA and AVCA All-America teams.

The 5-foot-11 outside hitter enjoyed another outstanding year in the program and helped the Warriors to a 30-4 record and a berth in the NAIA national tournament for the second straight year. It’s only the fourth time LCSC has won 30 matches in a season. LCSC won the Frontier Conference regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year, and then defeated Shawnee State in the opening round of the NAIA national tournament to advance to pool play. The Warriors finished 1-2 in pool play at Sioux City, Iowa.

Clemente was voted the conference’s Player of the Year this season after sharing the award with Angie Johnson of Westminster a year ago. She also was selected to the All-Region I team for the second straight season.

Clemente led the Warriors in kills this season with 436 and service aces with 65. She also was third in hitting percentage at .277 and second in digs with 366.

Clemente is the fifth Warrior volleyball player to earn first-team All America honors. The others were Kelli Harris in 1996, Kymm Lingnaw in 1997, Joy Dunn in 1999, and Angela Igoe in 2001.

The AVCA NAIA All-America first team was dominated by California players with 10 of the 15 players selected from the Golden State Athletic Conference. Rocky Mountain senior Jessica Eliasson was selected to the third team and was the only other Frontier Conference player to receive AVCA honors.
