Senior Julie Maciboba and freshman Sadie Lazzarini had nine kills apiece to help the Red squad defeat the Blue team 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 in the Lewis-Clark State College intra-squad women's volleyball scrimmage at the LCSC Activity Center on Saturday.
Maciboba, who was a second-team all-Frontier Conference selection, had a solid match for the Red team, which led throughout the first and third game. Lazzarini, one of six freshmen on the squad, also played well.
Anile Clemente, a junior who was a third-team All American last season, added seven kills for the Red team.
Junior Dana Christiansen led the Blue team with 12 kills, while senior Austyn Lewis added nine.
"It's fun to compete in a game-like situation," LCSC coach Jennifer Greeny said. "I just really liked the way the freshmen gelled with the rest of the team. It's not like it's a deer-in-the-headlight situation. They are playing very well."
The Warriors kick off the season in the five-team Holiday Inn Express Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the LCSC Activity Center. Joining LCSC will be Westmont, Northwest, Corban, and Concordia of Oregon. The first match begins at noon on Friday and LCSC's first match will be at 2 p.m. Friday against Corban.
Greeny said the key this week is figuring out the starting six and the rotations the team will use in the tournament.
