For the second straight year, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team has been picked as the team to beat in the Frontier Conference by the league coaches.
The Warriors received a perfect seven first-place votes and 49 points in the annual preseason poll. Coaches in the league are not allowed to vote for their own team, but LCSC received the first-place vote from the other seven conference members. Carroll College received the other first-place vote to narrowly edge out Rocky Mountain for second place in the poll.
The Warriors are the two-time defending conference regular-season and tournament champions. LCSC posted a 30-4 record a year ago as it won the conference regular season title with a 12-2 mark.
LCSC returns eight letterwinners from last year’s squad, which reached the NAIA national tournament for the second straight season.
The Warriors are holding an Alumni Weekend on Friday and Saturday this week with an alumni team playing the current Warrior squad at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the LCSC Activity Center. Admission is free.
LCSC kicks off the regular season by playing host to the five-team Comfort Inn Tournament on Aug. 28-29. LCSC opens the tournament against Northwest University at 10 a.m. on Aug. 28. Also participating in the tournament will be Concordia-Irvine, College of Idaho and the University of Great Falls.
