LCSC opens FC play with win over Western
DILLON, Mont. - The Lewis-Clark State College women's volleyball team successfully began its quest for a third straight Frontier Conference title by defeating the University of Montana Western 25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 25-11 on Friday night.
The Warriors, 1-0 in conference play and 6-4 overall, rolled in the first two sets before Montana Western, 0-1 and 4-6, rallied to win the third game. LCSC then closed out the match in the final contest.
Senior outside hitter Anile Clemente led the Warriors with 12 kills, four service aces, 17 digs and a solo block. Jenna Bird added eight kills, while Dana Christiansen added seven kills and three solo blocks.
LCSC coach Jen Greeny said that Christiansen played well in leading the Warriors' strong performance at the net. She also gave Montana Western, which had won only a handful of matches during the past two seasons, credit for playing well.
"I think they did an exceptional job," Greeny said. "We won the first two sets and then it was hard to get going. We're just glad to get out of there with a win."
Junior Katie Hinrichs, who suffered a knee injury last week and missed part of a tournament in California, returned to action in the match.
Lisa Davis had 15 assists and 17 digs, while Kim Fong added 13 assists.
The Warriors continue the road trip on Saturday with a match against Montana Tech at 4 p.m. in Butte, Mont.
LCSC's first home matches in conference play come next week when the Warriors play host to the University of Great Falls at 7 p.m. on Thursday and then Montana State-Northern at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be at the LCSC Activity Center.
