Dropping a pair of Frontier Conference matches on the road last week not only cost the Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team first place in the league standings, but it also dropped the Warriors 11 spots in this week’s NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll, which was released Tuesday.
The Warriors fell from No. 11 to No. 22 after losing to both Rocky Mountain and Carroll College last week to fall to 12-6 on the season. Carroll, which was unranked, moved into the Top 25 at No. 19 with a 15-5 record.
Although Fresno Pacific remained at the top of the poll with an 18-0 record, there was plenty of movement throughout the poll. California Baptist moved into the No. 2 spot while Concordia of California fell to No. 3. In all, only four teams in the Top 25 remained in the same position as a week ago.
The Warriors don’t resume play until Oct. 15 when they start the second round of conference play against Montana Western at 7 p.m. at the LCSC Athletic Center.
This Friday, the Warrior players and coaching staff will hold a fundraiser for the volleyball program at 5-8 p.m. at Macullen’s Restaurant in Lewiston. Warrior volleyball players will serve as table hostesses and there will be silent auction during the evening. Volleyball apparel also will be for sale and there will a table to meet the coaches and team. Autographs will be available.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. The next poll will be announced on Oct. 13.
