The Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball program continues to add to its impressive academic achievement list by being one of 34 NAIA teams to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award, the AVCA announced this week.
The NAIA has more than 200 volleyball programs across the United States but LCSC was one of only 34 that achieved a team grade point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the 2009-10 academic year.
The Warriors had a team GPA of 3.58 overall last year (3.56 in the spring semester and 3.59 in the fall). The spring GPA marked the sixth straight semester the team GPA has been at 3.19 or higher under the current coaching staff.
The Warriors had 11 players earn Frontier Conference All-Academic honors last year as well as three players earned NAIA Academic All-America honors.
LCSC also enjoyed another outstanding season on the court last year as well. The Warriors tied for the Frontier Conference regular season title, won the conference’s postseason tournament, and advanced to the pool-play portion of the NAIA national tournament for the third straight year. LCSC finished the season 25-9.
The Warriors open the 2010 schedule on Aug. 26-28 when they play host to the six-team LCSC Tournament. The Warriors open with Walla Walla University on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
