Already tabbed as the favorite to win the Frontier Conference title by the league coaches, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team was ranked No. 15 in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, which was released Tuesday.
LCSC received 292 points in the poll and was joined by fellow conference member Carroll College which was ranked No. 25 with 98 points.
“I think it’s a great starting place,” said LCSC head coach Jen Greeny who is now in her fourth season with the team. “Hopefully we can play well during the preseason, show that we’re a tough team, and move from there.”
LCSC, which went 25-9 last season, has won or tied for the conference’s regular season title in each of the last three seasons and also has won the conference tournament title all three years.
For the third-straight year, Fresno Pacific University (Calif.) will begin the season at No. 1. Fresno Pacific concluded its 2009 season with a 38-0 overall record and a third-straight national title, defeating Georgetown College (Ky.), 25-15, 25-18, 25-12.
The Warriors were not ranked in last year’s preseason poll, but jumped to No. 13 in the first regular season poll and stayed in the top 25 for the remainder of the season.
LCSC kicks off its season on Aug. 26-28 in its own LCSC Tournament. The Warriors meet Walla Walla University on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
Prior to the tournament, the Warriors will scrimmage an alumni team on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center. Admission is free.
