While a number of teams bounced around from the preseason ranking to the first Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll of the regular season, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s team remained at No. 7 on Tuesday.
The Warriors, who are 6-2 on the season earned 555 points in the poll and stand two points behind No. 6 Point Loma Nazarene, which jumped up from No. 12 after its 4-0 start.
LCSC defeated four teams that were ranked in the preseason Top 25 poll and also lost a five-set thriller to Southern Oregon, which moved up one spot to No. 13 after its 4-2 start.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Warriors as they prepare for their home and Frontier Conference opener on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Rocky Mountain, which moved up four spots to No. 14 and is 11-2 on the season. Thursday’s game is Warrior Blue Night and all fans are encouraged to wear blue to the match.
On Saturday, LCSC plays host to Carroll, which received again received votes in the poll. That match is at 2 p.m. and the first 100 fans through the gates will receive a free Pepsi product.
Texas at Brownsville received 21 of the 24 first-place votes to move into the top spot. Lee and Columbia exchanged spots and are now second and third, respectively, while Azusa Pacific stands fourth and Embry-Riddle fifth. Fresno Pacific, which was ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, fell to No. 24 after its 3-3 start.
Only six teams in the poll stand undefeated after two weeks of play.
