The Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team moved back into the Top 10 in this week’s Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 poll as the Warriors came in at No. 9 on Tuesday.
With the top eight spots remaining unchanged from a week ago, the Warriors jumped from No. 13 to No. 9 after three victories on the road last week, including one over then No. 9-ranked Rocky Mountain.
LCSC, in first place in the Frontier Conference standings at 8-1, is 14-3 overall. LCSC drew 473 points in the poll, compared to 501 for No. 8 Fresno Pacific and 455 for No. 10 Indiana Tech. The Warriors were in the top 10 earlier this season but fell out after losing to Rocky Mountain at home in the first meeting. LCSC has spent the last five weeks ranked between No. 11 and No. 14.
Rocky Mountain fell to No. 12 in the poll and is 19-4 overall, while a third FC team, Carroll, is ranked No. 23 at 13-6.
The move in the poll was important for LCSC because the top 11 teams at the end of the season receive a bye in the first round of the 36-team NAIA national tournament. Those 11 teams, plus a host team, earn automatic berths into the 24-team pool play portion of the tourney while the remaining 24 teams play first-round loser-out matches for the right to advance to national pool play.
The Warriors play their final two home matches of the season this week when they entertain Montana Western on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Montana Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m. Thursday’s match has been designated as Dig Pink and fans are encouraged to wear pink to support the cure for breast cancer. Sodexo also will have dinner available for purchase at 5:30-7 p.m. at the Activity Center and there will be a pre-match function for Warrior Zone at Southway Pizza at 5-6 p.m. Also, fans are encouraged to bring a can of food to donate for a chance to win a Spot On Yogurt prize.
On Saturday, the Warriors’ three seniors will be honored before the match. There also will be a Warrior Zone raffle.
