Although the top 10 spots in this week’s Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball coaches’ Top 25 poll remain unchanged, the Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team gained ground on No. 8 Fresno Pacific.
The Warriors again are at No. 9 with 466 points, while Fresno Pacific is one point ahead at 467. It’s important for the Warriors to remain in the top 11 as those teams in the final poll will receive an automatic bye into the round-robin portion of the NAIA National Tournament. The remaining 24 teams that qualify will have to play first-round matches and only the winners will advance to round-robin play.
LCSC has won 10 straight matches, all in Frontier Conference play, to stand 16-3 overall and 10-1 in conference play. Rocky Mountain, which is ranked No. 11, is 8-2 in league play and in second place.
The Warriors play their final three regular-season games on the road, starting with a pair this week. On Friday, LCSC will be in Great Falls to play the Argos at 6 p.m., and then it travels to Havre, Mont., to face Montana State-Northern on 1 p.m. Saturday. Great Falls is tied for third in the conference at 6-4 and is 21-5 overall. MSU-Northern is sixth at 5-5, and is 13-9 overall.
LCSC then wraps up the season on Nov. 3 against Westminster in Salt Lake at 6 p.m.
Texas at Brownsville remains the unanimous No. 1 choice for the seventh straight week in the poll.
