After holding down the No. 9 spot in the previous two polls, the Lewis-Clark State College volleyball team moved to No. 8 in this week’s Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday.
The Warriors, now riding a 12-match win streak, clinched at least a share of the Frontier Conference regular season title last week with wins over Great Falls and MSU-Northern. This stands as their fifth consecutive title.
Lewis-Clark State’s gain in the poll came at Fresno Pacific’s loss as the Warriors earned 494 points to move one spot up and the Sunbirds received 487 and dropped from No. 8 to No. 9.
Conference members Rocky Mountain College and Carroll College each climbed one notch to be ranked No. 10 and No. 24, respectively.
The Warriors stand first in the conference standings with a 12-1 league record and a 18-3 mark overall. Rocky is second at 10-2 and 22-4, and Carroll is third at 8-4 and 15-7.
With a win in Salt Lake City against Westminster on Thursday night the Warriors will win the conference season title outright.
Concordia (Calif.), winner of 27-straight matches, is the NAIA’s top-ranked team for the first time in school history. The Eagles bumped out Texas at Brownsville which had enjoyed an eight-week run at No. 1.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The next poll will be announced on Nov. 8.
