Herrick is named NAIA second-team All-American
12/5/2011
LCSC's Lauryn HerrickLewis-Clark State College’s Lauryn Herrick was selected to the 2011 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball All-America Second Team by the NAIA Volleyball All-America Selection Committee, the NAIA released on Monday. Teammate Kelli Tikker earned honorable mention status.

Herrick, named the Frontier Conference Player of the Year in November, was one of 14 players picked for the second team and becomes the 19th Warrior volleyball player in program history to earn All-American honors.

A total of 14 players were named to both the first and third teams as well, while 53 players made the honorable mention list.

Counting Herrick, only three Frontier Conference players were named to the teams as Rocky Mountain’s Sara Brunner and Kristin Barott were placed on the second and third team, respectively.

Herrick, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Cypress, Calif., enjoyed a tremendous season finishing ranked No. 7 in the nation in service aces per game (0.6) and No. 15 in total aces (67). She was second for the Warriors in kills with 307, third in hitting percentage at .265, and third in digs with 230. She was also third on the team in total blocks with 49.

Herrick joined the Warriors as a freshman in 2008 and has been a part of four of LCSC’s five consecutive regular season conference titles. She helped push the Warriors to their fifth straight national tournament appearance this year where the team finished in the final 12.

Tikker, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter from Nine Mile Falls, Wash., also enjoyed a very strong senior season as she finished second on the team in service aces (31) and digs (324), and was fifth on the team in total blocks with 34.

The only other conference player to earn honorable mention status was Kelsey Vanuden of the University of Great Falls.

Concordia (Calif.) junior outside hitter Brooke Marino was named the NAIA Player of the Year, and Concordia’s Dan Fisher was named the Coach of the Year. Fisher led the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the national tournament and a 37-2 overall record.
