The Lewis-Clark State College volleyball team will kick off its 2013 season with a fun-filled day at the Activity Center that will celebrate the Warriors’ past, present and future.
On Saturday, Aug. 17, the Warriors will hold an Alumni Match at 5 p.m., pitting the current edition of the LCSC squad against a mix of past Warriors.
The Alumni Match will be followed by an autograph session where fans can meet and greet both current and former Warrior players. Fans are encouraged to bring Warrior volleyball memorabilia from past years so that volleyball alumni can sign posters, programs, etc. from their time as LCSC student-athletes.
Before the match there will also be a “Senior Night” ceremony honoring graduate assistant coach Nevena Dragovic, who completed her Warrior playing career in 2012.
Dragovic will play and coach for the alumni squad.
“I think it will be an extremely fun day, and I think the match will be very competitive,” Warrior coach LaToya Harris said. “We expect around 10 alumni, many of whom were on the team that started the six-year conference championship streak, so it will be good for our players to see what LC volleyball stands for.”
After the Alumni Match, the 2013 Warriors will jump right into their pre-conference schedule the following week, as they head to La Mirada, Calif., for the Biola Holiday Inn Summer Slam on Aug. 22-23.
All of the Warriors’ pre-conference games will take place away from Lewiston, with the team not playing in the Activity Center until Frontier Conference play opens on Sept. 13.
Season passes for volleyball start at $20 and can be purchase over the phone at 208-792-2471, at the Activity Center ticket office, or online at www.lcwarriors.com. All-sport season passes, which get fans into all LCSC home volleyball, basketball and baseball events, are also available, with prices starting at $75.
While at the La Mirada tournament the Warriors will play four games against teams which appeared in the 2012 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Postseason Poll, including a match against defending national champion Concordia (Calif.). They will also face The Master’s College, Vanguard University and host Biola.
All told, the Warriors, who claimed a sixth straight Frontier Conference regular season title last year, will play 11 matches in 2013 against teams that were ranked in the 2012 postseason coaches’ poll.
The following weekend on Aug. 29-30, LCSC heads to Ashland, Ore., for the Southern Oregon tournament, where it will face Simpson, Northwest University, Menlo College and finally, the host Raiders.
After road matches at Concordia (Ore.) and an exhibition at Seattle Pacific, Lewis-Clark State will journey to Texas to play in the Wesleyan Hughes Classic, hosted by Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth on Sept. 6-7.
During the event the Warriors will play Texas-Brownsville, ranked third in the 2012 postseason coaches’ poll, Our Lady of the Lake, host Texas Wesleyan and Embry-Riddle (Fla.).
LCSC returns to Idaho on Sept. 11 for a road match at College of Idaho before opening conference play against Montana Tech in the Activity Center on Sept. 13. The contest will snap a string of 15 straight road matches to start the 2013 season for the Warriors.
League play continues through September, October and November before culminating with the 2013 Frontier Conference Tournament, to be held at the University of Great Falls on Nov. 14-16.
