LEWISTON, ID--The second-ranked Lewis-Clark State College Warriors kept its 17-match winning streak alive by defeating a tough Carroll College team, 3-0, in a Frontier Conference match at Warrior Gymnasium, Saturday night.
Lewis-Clark State (17-0, 6-0 in the FC) was led by the offensive power of Regina Cooper (John Day, OR). The senior outside hitter racked up 16 kills to go along with nine digs, two toal blocks and one service ace. Amber Weatherspoon (Athena, OR) and Sandy Arend (Tacoma, WA) chipped in with seven kills apiece. Freshman outside hitter Kim Conder (Puyallup, WA) led the Warriors defensively with 16 digs. Arend added 13 digs. Marci Pascua (Grass Valley, CA) recorded 36 assists and tallied 10 digs for Lewis-Clark State. Freshman middle blocker Julie Hilt (Fort Collins, CO), the third-best blocker in the conference (1.10/game) added three total blocks.
The Warriors battled with the Fighting Saints all night. The third game showed the resiliency that the Warriors have developed over the season. Down 14-9, Lewis-Clark State battled back and took the game 16-14. The Warriors have not lost one game at home this year.
"The third game was a great game for us," said Lewis-Clark State head coach Kip Yoshimura. "Just to come back and win from being down 14-9 and not show any signs of panicing was great. We felt confident that if we needed to go into a fourth game that we would not lose."
Carroll College (14-4, 3-2) was led offensively by Jessica Elliots 13 kills and Andi Fehrers 11 kills. Natalie Conroy registered 44 assists and Elliot sparked the defense with a team-high 17 digs.
