Warrior Volleyball Schedule Release

LEWISTON, ID-Lewis-Clark State women’s volleyball coach Kip Yoshimura has released the 2001 volleyball schedule. The Warriors host their own tournament to start the season and will play in two more on the road.

The Lewis-Clark State College volleyball season will get underway Thursday, August 23rd, at 7:00 PM, when the Warriors take on Simon Fraser University, a team that defeated LCSC in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Pacific Northwest Regionals at Portland, OR, last year. Lewis-Clark State will play the host of last year’s regional, Concordia University, on Friday, the opening day of the Lewis-Clark State College Volleyball Tournament that runs August 24th and 25th at Warrior Gymnasium. Bellevue University, the University of Victoria, and Seattle University round out the field.

"This tournament will be a good test for us early," said Yoshimura. "Bellevue and Concordia were Sweet 16 teams last year, Seattle is good NCAA Division II team, and Victoria will be a tough team."

The Warriors will close out the month at the Northwest Nazarene University Tournament. Friday, August 31st, L-C will play against Simon Fraser and The Master’s College. The tournament concludes September 1st with the Warriors taking on Seattle and Northwest Nazarene.

"We played The Master’s College several years ago," said Yoshimura. "They are always a tough team."

Lewis-Clark State rounds out its non-conference schedule at the Concordia University Tournament in Portland September 7th and 8th.

The Frontier Conference schedule gets underway Thursday, September 13th, with a home match against the University of Great Falls, who will be in their first year of volleyball. On Saturday, the Warriors play host to Montana State-Northern. L-C’s first road contest, in conference play, will be Friday, September 21st at the University of Montana-Western (formerly called Western Montana College). Key conference matches will be against: defending regular and post-season champions, Rocky Mountain College, September 27th in Lewiston and October 27th in Billings; Carroll College, September 29th in Lewiston and October 26th in Helena; and, the University of Montana-Western.

"Both Rocky Mountain and Carroll College will be strong this year," said Yoshimura. "Great Falls is an unknown, but they have an experienced coach in Dick Scott."

The Frontier Conference Tournament will be held in Butte, MT on November 8th through the 10th, with all eight schools participating. The NAIA Pacific Northwest Regional will be held at the Frontier Conference Tournament champion’s site.

A couple of rule changes will be in place for the volleyball season. Rally scoring to 30 will be for the first four sets, with the fifth set going to 15 points. Also, a net serve will be considered in play.
