Personal Bests: Ran 2:01 in the 800, 4:08 in the 1,500, 4:20 in the 1,600, 9:40 in the 3,000 steeplechase, 15:55 in the 5K, and 26:10 in the 8K.

 

 


 

 

 

 


 

 

Joel comes to LCSC after spending his freshman year at Mount Olive College, a private Christian college, in North Carolina. He is the second athlete from Kenya to compete in the Warrior men’s cross country program, joining teammate Eric Tuwei. Joel is somewhat of an unknown entering the year, but had already added a fun and outgoing personality to the team.  

PERSONAL: Born Nov. 10, 1984 in Kapsabet, Kenya to Wilbert K. and Christine C. Cheruiyot. He has three brothers and three sisters.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Samoei Boys High School in 2000-03 where he played both volleyball and tennis at the provincial level. He also represented his high school in cross country at the district and provincial level his final two years. He earned a certificate of Merit while in school.

FAVORITE MOVIES:  Blood Diamond and President’s Daughter. 

FAVORITE FOODS: Chapati, meat stew, and rice. 

DREAM JOB: Member of Parliament and, for an instance, be Kenya’s Prime Minister. 

NICKNAME:  Lecturer. 

FAVORITE PHRASE: “Oh really!!”
