Career & Advising Services Mission
To
advise and empower individuals as they explore educational and career
options and develop skills to succeed in their career goals.
Career & Advising Services Focus
The primary focus of Career & Advising Services is to serve
prospective students, current LCSC students
and alumni. The following information pertains to those services that are offered to
our academic community. For non-students or alumni of other institutions, please refer to
Services to Non-Students.
Career Exploration
CAS provides a wide array of opportunities for students who are undecided about their
academic/career choice or want to confirm the choice they have made. A few of these
opportunities are provided through the following avenues:
- Career Exploration workshop
- Career Development class (spring semesters)
- DISCOVER program (a computer-based exploration program)
- CAS Library materials covering a wide variety of exploration topics
- Individual career assessment and counseling
Advising
The individual advising process establishes a
collaborative relationship between student and advisor in which the student
feels a sense of connection, support, and guidance. Effective advising is
developmental and essential to a meaningful and successful educational
experience. CAS has oversight responsibility for academic advising on the LCSC
campus. As such, we provide:
- STAR - Student Advising & Registration
events throughout the year
- Individual advising of all Undeclared and
Pre-Radiography students
- Advisor Training events
- Student Success programs for conditional
or college re-entry
Job Search
A large focus of CAS is assisting students with the search for employment. From resume
critique to placement bulletins, we provide opportunities for students to learn search
techniques and to acquire employment. As follows are a few examples:
- Workshops on Resume & Cover Letter Preparation, Interview Techniques, and Conducting
The Off-Campus Job Search
- CAS Library resources in all facets of the search
- Individual resume critiques and job search consultation with counselors
- Job Match program and Work Study position listings (assisting students with finding work
while in school)
- On-line placement bulletin
- Credential files for LCSC graduates
Graduate School Preparation
Part of a student's career development may include entrance (or at least exploration)
into advanced education. CAS offers the following services that will assist students in
their search for the right graduate school:
- Workshop on Applying to Graduate School
- Information on graduate school entrance exams
- CAS Library resources on selection of and applying to graduate school
Special Events
Throughout the year, CAS may offer special events to assist students in career
development. Some of the events we have offered in the past are:
- Career Fair
- Mock Interview Day
- Gaining The Competitive Edge in the Interview Meal
- Professional Attire Presentation (Dressing For A Successful Interview)
