General Information:

  • Prepares students to design, develop and manage organizational web sites.
     
  • Students employ industry driven software applications and technologies to complete coursework.

  • Contemporary standards and best practices are taught in a comprehensive, yet flexible, program of study which prepares students for the web development jobs of tomorrow.

  • Graduates can expect to fill entry-level positions in the web design and development industry upon graduation.

  • Students work on “live” web development projects using a variety of industry standard web authoring tools.

The Web Development program is designed to prepare students with the skills to design, develop and manage business web sites. Coursework includes applying the most popular web authoring and data processing tools to web development. Current Internet technologies, web-programming techniques and electronic business practices will be learned. Completers of this program will be able to work in development teams and communicate in the technical area.

This exciting field is dynamically growing as more and more organizations build and enhance their Internet presence. The program is flexible to stay current with emerging Internet technologies. Students will have the opportunity to gain experience in hands on web authoring during their coursework.

 

Employment Outlook:

  • Projected to be among the fastest growing and higher paid industries in the U.S. economy with many of the sample jobs on this website predicted to grow 10-35% nationally (until 2014 according to O*Net OnLine) with annual median earnings ranging from $31.50-48.84/ hour nationally.

Web Designer / Web Developer

  • Understand visual communication and have the ability to use web application to create pages that contain information with text and graphics.
     
  • Create useful, attractive, effective pages.
     
  • Blend hypertext with the conventions and etiquette of the web.

  • Program special features.
     
  • Select and set up the proper software.

Web Content Manager

  • Responsible for developing and deploying technical solutions including all internal and external web sites.
     
  • Implement web site content, including some custom form creation.
     
  • Oversee the deployment of emails.

  • Create complex segmentations from data.
     
  • Create detailed technical requirements for projects.
     
  • Analyze and report site traffic and email statistics.
     
  • Work with and supervise outside consultants on any technical developments.

  • Responsible for maintenance and improvement of existing website.
     
  • Develops and enforces the house style.

Web Applications Programmer

  • Converts the storyboard for the site into hypertext markup language (HTML) making a web page change from code to a visual page.
