RADIOGRAPHIC SCIENCE
(NURSING AND HEALTH
SCIENCES DIVISION)

RS-205 INTRODUCTION TO RADIOGRAPHY (3 CR.)
An introduction to the profession of radiography career, professional requirements, advancement opportunities, the history of radiologic health care, the health care team, professional organizations, ethical principles in radiography, and medico-legal considerations. Organization of the radiology department, equipment used in ionizing radiation, radiation safety and universal/standard precautions will be examined.
Co-requisites: RS 220, RS 235.

RS-220 PATIENT CARE IN RADIOGRAPHY (3 CR.)
A lecture/laboratory course of principles and practices of professional oral and written communication, patient assessment and education in the radiographic setting. Techniques of patient care, medication and contrast media administration, patient preparation and techniques of special procedures, radiography in specialty care areas, and safety issues will be presented. Observation and practice will occur in concurrent course Radiographic Methods I.
Co-requisites: RS 205, RS 225, and RS 235.

RS-232 APPLIED RADIOGRAPHY (2 CR.)
Core position practices in radiography. X-ray exams will be performed on upper and lower extremities, chest and abdomen. Phantom anatomical models will be imaged and film critique will be performed on each positioning protocol.

RS-235 TECHNICAL IMAGING (2 CR.)
Overview of radiographic technique x-ray concepts and machinery grids, digital and computed radiography, film-screen combinations and technical imaging parameters.

RS-252 APPLIED RADIOGRAPHY II (3 CR.)
Core positioning practices in radiography. Completion of radiographic examination on patients in the clinical setting.

RS-255 RADIOGRAPHIC PATHOLOGY (3 CR.)
Basic principles of pathology and radiographic appearance of specific diseases. Selecting proper modalities related to disease processes, technical factors, and determination for retaking radiographs that might be acceptable under different circumstances.
Co-requisites: RS 260 and RS 265.

RS-260 QUALITY ASSURANCE (3 CR.)
Quality Assurance provides a working knowledge of radiographic quality control, as it relates to an overall quality assurance program. Test instruments, measurement and evaluation of quality control criteria will be discussed. Film analysis relating to the quality control program includes evaluation of film density, contrast, collimation, positioning, artifacts, structures shown, and film identification.
Co-requisites: RS 252, RS 255, and RS 265.

RS-265 SPECIAL PROCEDURES AND IMAGING MODALITIES (3 CR.)
This is a lecture course of principles and practices of special procedures and advanced imaging modalities. Techniques of tomography, myelography, angiography, interventional radiography will be presented. An introduction to computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, sonography, nuclear medicine, digital radiography and radiation therapy will be given.
Co-requisites: RS 252, RS 255, and RS 260.

RS-271 RADIOGRAPHIC METHODS (3 CR.)
This is a lecture/laboratory course of principles and practices of skull, facial bones, sinus and laryngeal radiography. Techniques of patient care, positioning, technique, film critique, anatomy and pathology will be presented. Observation and practice will occur in the 1250 Idaho Street laboratory classroom. Pre-requisites: Admission into the Radiography Program.

RS-272 APPLIED RADIOGRAPHY III (4 CR.)
Core positioning practices in radiography demonstrated in the clinical environment. Continuation of RS 300 to include all needed competency exams required by the AART.

RS-330 RADIOBIOLOGY (3 CR.)
Review of cell structure and function, ionizing radiation induced cell damage, history of radiation disease research, and subsequent development of radiation protection guidelines.
Co-requisites: RS 332.

RS-332 APPLIED RADIOGRAPHY IV (9 CR.)
Core positioning practices in radiography demonstrated in the clinical environment. Continuation of RS 272 to include all needed competency exams required by the AART.
Co-requisites: RS 330.

RS-352 APPLIED RADIOGRAPHY V (10 CR.)
Core positioning practices in radiography demonstrated in the clinical environment. Continuation of RS 332 to include all needed competency exams required by the AART.
Co-requisites: RS 355.

RS-355 REGISTRY REVIEW (2 CR.)
This course provides an overview of radiographic terminology, anatomy, positioning, ethics, legal principles, technique, physics, radiobiology special procedures, quality assurance, patient care, and professionalism related to the performance of entry-level radiography in preparation for taking the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) Radiography (R) exam.
