A. Our service provides assist and
information to students and alumni in the following areas: Career Exploration,

should I go for information about jobs available at your institution?
A. The Career & Advising Services
(CAS) office on the campus of LCSC helps students locate employment. CAS is
located in Reid Centennial Hall RM 22.

Q. Can
Career & Advising Services help me find a job?
A. We have three programs that can
help LCSC students find jobs:
1.
Job Match
- This program helps us provide a “match” between job openings posted by
local employers and interested students. You must be a currently enrolled
student to use this program. Come in to our office to view specific positions.
2.
Work-Study – Our
office, in cooperation with the Financial Aid Office, houses current information
about on-campus positions. If you are a current student, are eligible for
financial aid, and have been awarded work study funds, come see us for these
positions.
3.
Placement Bulletin –
Our website contains a list of professional job openings for graduates, updated
daily. To see these positions, visit our website at

Q. What
opportunities do students at LCSC have for out-of-class positions, or
internships, at your institution?
A. Internships for LCSC students are
developed through the many academic divisions on campus. Contact your division

graduates?
A. One of the ways we evaluate the
success of our graduates is by learning about occupational trends after

you help me decide on a major or find a new career?
A. Once you have decided on a career,
it will be easy to decide which major would best prepare you for the position.
We can help you in the following ways:

Scheduled one-hour Career Exploration
workshops.
·
Career counselors
who are willing to meet with you to assist in your decision making.
·
DISCOVER, a
computer program in our office, can assess your skills, interests, and values in
such a way as to help guide you into the field that best fits.
Also, if you have an idea of what you’d
like to do, you can research the field and possible choices on the
DISCOVER program and in our resource library.
Q. Can you help me create a
resume and cover letter?
A. Yes, we have the following
assistance:

Scheduled one-hour workshops that you
can attend.

Videos that you
can check out.
·
Scheduled resume clinics when
students can stop by CAS for help, no appointment necessary.
·
Many books, periodicals, and samples in our library
of resources.
After you have attended a workshop or
watched our video, you can make an appointment for additional one-on-one
assistance with your resume and cover letter.
Q.
Can you help me prepare for the interview process?
Yes, we have the following assistance:

Scheduled one-hour workshops that you
can attend.
·
Videos that you
can check out.
·
Many books, periodicals, and samples in our library
of resources.
After you have attended a workshop or
watched our video, you can reserve your spot in our Mock Interview
Opportunities. This is an opportunity for you to interact with employers from
the community or our office to simulate real life interview situations.
Q.
How can I determine what is proper dress when I
apply for a job?
A. In addition to one-on-one
discussion with Career Development staff, we offer two ways in which you can
learn the finer points of dressing in a professional situation.
1)
We have an event called “Dressing for a Successful
Interview,” which takes place once every spring semester. This is a great
way to learn about the latest styles and expectations of attire in an interview
setting.
2)
This subject is also discussed in our Interview
workshop.

How do I find out information about an employer?
A.
1)
Use one of the Career & Advising Services student
computers to research an employer on the web.
2)
You may also find information in the Career & Advising Services resource library.
3)
Other ways to research employers include reading the local
newspaper, speaking with individuals who work at that place of employment, and
speaking with your instructors and/or advisors.

What kinds of services are available to learn about
Graduate School?
A. Whether you are at the beginning
stages of the graduate school process or are ready to submit your application,
Career & Advising Services can help! Here are a few ways:
1)
Career & Advising Services offers a workshop entitled,
Applying to Graduate School that can help students find information on schools
of interest and assist in the application process.
2)
Students and alumni can also meet individually with a
staff member to discuss specific needs and to receive in-depth, personalized
assistance.
3)
There are a number of useful resources in the Career & Advising Services resource library to assist in preparing for the graduate
school experience.
Q.
How can you help prepare for graduate school admission
exams (i.e. GRE, GMAT, MCAT…)?
A. Helping students conduct research
to locate information is the best way Career & Advising Services can assist.
1)
In the resource library, we provide test registration
materials, study/preparation books, and other resources you can use to learn
more about the exams.
2)
Students can access on-line exam websites that can be of
great aid in research.
Q.
Do you have information on upcoming Commencement?
A.
Career & Advising Services is currently responsible
for Commencement. Up-to-date information can be obtained in our office or on

Q. Do you have a computer I
can use?
A. Career & Advising Services
provides two student computers in our office. Students can print up to 10 pages
with no charge.
Q. How do I become involved in
the Ambassador Honor Society?
A. Applications are sent to eligible
LCSC students each summer for the coming year. Students are eligible when they
have completed 32 credits with a 3.0 GPA. The Director of CAS is also the
co-advisor of Ambassadors. For more information:
