There's Gold in Them Rivers!
by Mike Crooks
Members of the Clearwater Chapter of the
Northwest Gold Prospectors Association will provide a power
sluice, instruction on the art of gold panning, and a brief
discussion on mining regulations and ethics at a location
just east of Lewiston. Pans and gold grabber sucker bottles
will be provided for class use. You will also receive a
copy of the “Regulations & Claims Special Issue” newsletter
and a vial in which to take your loot home. Panning kits
will be available for purchase.
1 day course
Mike Crooks became interested in
prospecting about 15 years ago and this interest evolved
over the years into a fun hobby. He has played his way
through a pan, sluice, power sluice, gold suction dredges,
crushers and metal detectors, and now owns a hard rock gold
mine (a hole in the ground with a liar on top). Mike enjoys
discovering, researching, and sharing the elusive history of
gold mining in the area around Lewiston. He edits and
publishes the monthly newsletter, “Clearwater Nuggets” for
the Northwest Gold Prospector Association’s Clearwater
Chapter, of which he is a charter member. He also
occasionally writes some on the history of local mining.
