Q:
Who can take Kids' College classes?
A: Kids who
are 6-14 years old by June 1 can take Kids' College classes. Some courses are
age-specific, so be sure to check on age requirements with each course.
Q:
Who teaches Kids' College classes?
A: Kids'
College instructors are enthusiastic and skilled experts in their field who
provide quality class curriculum that is approved by our staff. Safety is
important to us and to you and each instructor is screened by our staff and must
pass a third-party criminal background check.
Q: Do I have to sign up
for all classes all day?
A:
There is
no requirement for you to sign up for a full day of courses within a session or
for you to sign up for more than one session. Each class stands alone and you
can sign up for one class at a time. There are a variety of different courses to
choose from in each time slot and within the different sessions, so we recommend that you sign up for what works best for you.
Q:
How many students are in each course?
A: Depending
on the course itself, the amount of students may vary, but a typical course has
8-12 students.
Q: How much do classes cost?
A: We strive
to make Kids' College one of the most fulfilling and affordable summer youth activity
programs in the LC Valley. Regular classes are $50 each. Early Bird registration and
group discounts are also available for regular classes. Special workshop costs
vary, but are typically under $100 per session. Some courses may require
additional fees, which will be clearly identified with the course description. For those in need,
we also offer a scholarship program. Contact our office for details or with any
questions.
Q:
What are the drop-off and pick-up procedures?
A:
For the safety of all children, you must accompany
your child to the Student Union Building (SUB) no
more than 15 minutes prior to class and check in
with the Kids’ College Coordinator. Children should
NOT
be dropped off without being properly checked in.
There will be
no type of
supervision for your child if you arrive
earlier then the designated time of
7:45am. We also ask that you pick your child up within 5 minutes
of your child’s scheduled class ending time, in
person, at the SUB and check out with KC
Coordinator. There will be
no type of supervision after
4:45pm so please arrive on time. If you have
special circumstances, please contact the Kids’
College Offices at least
24 hours ahead of time.
Please keep in mind we have
limited staff supervision prior to hours of
operation. Also note that the only supervision
provided during Kids’ College sessions includes the
time your child is checked in for a class until your
child is checked out, including breaks between
enrolled classes and the lunch break. If your child
is not enrolled in back-to-back classes, supervision
will not be provided for the time they are not
enrolled in class and please arrange for them to be
picked up and checked out at the appropriate time.
Q:
What are the lunch
arrangements?
A:
Kids’ College provides a supervised lunch period for
children who attend courses immediately before or
after lunchtime. Please check your child’s schedule
to see if their class qualifies. Lunches are not
provided, so please send your child with a sack
lunch or they may also purchase a lunch combo on
campus at a special price. Please be sure to send
your child with the correct amount of money because
we cannot be responsible for any shortages.
Supervised games and activities will be available to
those who finish their lunch early. Parents are
always welcome to join their children for lunch.
Please note there will be no supervision outside of
classes other than transition between classes and
lunch time. If your child is not signed up for
afternoon classes please arrange for them to be
picked up and checked out at the appropriate time.
Q:
Who supervises my child throughout the day?
A:
All official Kids’ College personnel can be
identified by a nametag and/or t-shirt. Children are
supervised by the Kids’ College Coordinator,
Instructors, and Volunteers who are trained and have
successfully passed a background check. Youth
volunteers are used as classroom activity aids.
During hours of operation no child will be left
unattended.
Also
note that the only
supervision provided during Kids’ College sessions
includes the time your child is checked in for a
class until your child is checked out, including
breaks between enrolled classes and the lunch break.
If your child is not enrolled in back-to-back
classes, supervision will not
be provided for the time they are not
enrolled in class and please arrange for them to be
picked up and checked out at the appropriate time.
Q:
What if my child is unable to attend their class(es)?
A:
You may
cancel registration for a full refund up to 2 weeks prior to the
class start date.
After the 2 weeks prior to class you may transfer to another class or
receive a credit to put towards a future class. Refunds
done within 2 weeks of the class start
date will
result in a $10 administration fee. Refunds can take
up to several weeks for processing. No refunds will be issued after the start day of a course. If your
child needs to miss a day within the session, there will be no cost adjustments
and arrangements should be made with the Kids' College coordinator in advance.
Q:
What if my child's class is cancelled?
A:
On rare occassion, a change in schedule or unforseen
event may cause us to cancel a course. If this
happens, you will be notified immediately and can
arrange to transfer into another class, receive
credit toward another session or receive a full
refund. Refunds may take several weeks to process.
Q:
Who do I contact in the event of an emergency?
A:
If you
need to reach your child or the Kids' College
coordinator during class time, please contact the
Kids' College office at 208-792-2860 or the Summer
School & Special Programs office at 208-792-2207.
