See what parents are saying about us...

"My children have participated in several sessions of Kids' College through their grade school years. Overall, Kids' College is a very enriching, creative, fun, exciting, summer activity for children completing 2nd through 6th grade. I would and do recommend Kids' College to my friends and anyone else!"

SUBJECT:
Course Proposals for 2008 Kids' College classes

PLEASE NOTE:
Even if you have taught for us before, you must fill out the online proposal form. If you are teaching the same class as the previous term, you may simply tell us to use the previous copy for your course and instructor descriptions (though we encourage you to update this information periodically). However, we must have a course proposal form with the rest of the information filled out each time you wish to teach. Please submit a separate form for each class you are interested in teaching.

NEW THIS YEAR~
Based upon input last year from instructors and parents, we have made the following changes:

SESSION LENGTH
this year will be four-days, Monday-Thursday. We are hoping to accommodate the many families who had weekend plans which included Friday. This year's sessions are:

  • Session I- June 23-26

  • Session II- July 14-17

  • Session II- July 28-31

  • Session IV- August 4-7

CLASS LENGTH is one hour and 20 minutes each day* (Mon-Thurs).
*Except for Children's Theater and half-day camps.

CLASS FEES
are set by a Continuing Education representative in consultation with the instructor. At this time, we anticipate offering our 90 minutes classes at $50 per class with a $35 early-bird or multiple-class registration option. Our four-hour Science Adventure camps will be $89. Generally, extra expenses such as copying costs or video rentals are included in the class fee. Supplies are not included in the class fee, but will be advertised and collected at the first class period or at registration.

INSTRUCTOR PAY
is a stipend of $150.00 ($25.00/hr) for each four-day, one hour and 30 minute per day, session. Please note that the hourly amount is the same as last year. The stipend amount has changed due to the class length changing from 120 minutes to 90 minutes. Instructors will be teaching only 6 hours a session (Monday-Thursday) per class.

Stipends for teaching half-day camps will be $400.00 ($100.00/day) for each four-day, 4 hour per day, session. Instructors will be teaching 16 hours a session (Monday-Thursday) per class.

Instructors may expect to wait approximately four to six weeks before receiving their first check and are paid on the earliest pay date after all paperwork has been processed through the CECE office. The necessary forms include: W4, I-9 (with 2 forms of ID), Direct Deposit, and PERSI Verification.

BACKGROUND CHECKS
will be required of all instructors to ensure the safety of all involved in Kids' College. If your current employer can verify that you have passed a criminal background screening, the additional screening will be waived.

CLASSES ARE SELECTED by the perceived marketability of the class, our ability to schedule the facilities required by the class, the appropriateness of the class for the community, the basis of your teaching qualifications, and the overall balance and diversity of Kids’ College offerings for the term. In any given term, we may not be able to select your class.

LCSC CECE will not offer classes that are clearly promoting private interests, advocating civil disobedience, recruiting for a religious organization, endangering the public welfare, or misrepresenting Lewis-Clark State College and/or its policies and procedures.

CONTENT OF A CLASS is determined by the instructor. Remember that young learners taking summer classes do so for the fun of it, as well as to expand their knowledge of certain subject areas that may not be part of their normal educational curriculum.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENTS are generally seven students. Final determination will be made by a Continuing Education representative. Maximum enrollments are set by the instructor.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS and INSTRUCTOR BIOS used in the Kids’ College schedule and other publications are taken directly from course proposal forms. Please write these as you would like them to appear in print, using complete sentences and keeping to 50 words for course description and 35 words for bios. However, we reserve the right to edit descriptions. In the case of computer class offerings, please include any prerequisites (i.e., keyboarding/mouse experience, familiarity with Windows environment, etc.) necessary for the class.

Hints: Course descriptions should focus on the content or the learner. Opener techniques include a definition, the end result, a question, an outstanding or impressive fact, and/or quotation. Course descriptions should be enticing, factually complete and accurate with solid course information. Youngsters are intrigued by “catchy” or “zany” titles. Your bio should establish your qualifications in terms of experience (more so than credentials or degrees).

TEXTBOOKS/HANDOUTS are generally not used in Kids’ College classes. If you do plan to use a textbook, request CECE to order the books for your class. Please indicate the need to order books on your course proposal. Textbooks may also be ordered through the College Bookstore.

PAYROLL FORMS payroll forms must be completed and returned prior to the first class start date. Federal law requires us to verify citizenship status and eligibility to work in the U.S. Instructors will not be paid until all payroll forms have been submitted correctly to the CECE Office. The necessary forms include: W4, I-9 (with two forms of ID), Direct Deposit and PERSI Verification.

PUBLICITY beyond the CECE publicity schedule and brochure is your responsibility, and must be approved by the CECE office before distribution.
