The Simple Facts - Graduation 2005

Graduation is not automatic. Students must apply for graduation. Students must pay the graduation application fee before submitting the application form and program plan to the Registrar’s Office. The graduation application and application fee are effective for one calendar year beyond the semester indicated for graduation (e.g. if the student indicates a May 2005 graduation, the application will be effective until May 2006 in the event the student is unable to complete in May 2005).

To earn a certificate or a degree the student must complete:

A minimum of 32 semester credits for a certificate;

A minimum of 64 semester credits for an associate degree;

A minimum of 128 semester credits for a bachelor degree.

 Remedial and developmental course work, even if numbered 100 or above, does not count toward graduation requirements.

 Students must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 at LCSC to graduate. Some majors require a higher cumulative grade point average. If you have questions, check with your advisor.

 Students must complete a minimum of 36 credits in courses numbered 300 and above to earn any academic bachelor’s degree. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete a minimum of two years (16 credits) of the same foreign/heritage language.

 Students must complete all general education core, minor (if applicable), major, and graduation requirements to graduate. Please note: unless completed through Advanced Placement or Challenge Exam, all general education core courses must be graded with a letter grade, A-F. The pass/fail and audit options are not permitted for general education core courses.

 If a student has completed course work at another college or university, it is the student’s responsibility to submit all transfer course work prior to graduation.

 Graduation honors will be listed in the Commencement Program. Honors will be based on a minimum of 32 credits earned at LCSC as of the end of the Fall term. Graduation honors are also printed on the student’s LCSC academic transcript and are awarded upon completion of the degree when all courses have been graded and recorded.

 Students may elect to satisfy the requirements outlined in a specific catalog as long as the catalog is no more than seven years old at the time of graduation, or may also choose to satisfy the requirements listed in a more recent catalog as long as the student attended LCSC during the effective period of the catalog. Students may not use more than one catalog; students may not satisfy the general education core requirements from one catalog while satisfying the major requirements of another catalog.

 Students may be required to complete a division exit examination and/or other institutionally required assessments.

 Students are encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony in May even if they completed their degree in December, or will complete in August, provided they have no more than 8 credits of their respective degree to complete.

 Diplomas are ordered one time each year and are distributed by mail by the end of July. Duplicate diplomas can be ordered in the event that a diploma is lost or destroyed. There is an additional fee for duplicate diploma orders.

 Degree information is posted to a student’s transcript within one month of completion.

 Financial aid recipients must attend an exit interview before their degree will be posted or their diploma is released.

 All holds — including all delinquent payments and other financial obligations —must be cleared before a final transcript or the diploma is released.

 Degrees will not be awarded to students who have Incomplete (I) or In Progress (IP) grades on their transcript after the Fall 1994 term.

Secondary Education majors are announced by their content area.
