Preparing-for-Academic-Excellence Camp in Full Swing
Even though school’s out for the summer, LCSC is currently
playing host to kids who remain in the learning mode. Happening on campus
from July 15-26 is the Nez Perce Tribe’s Preparing for Academic Excellence
Camp (PACE).
For the 5th year in a row, middle-school-aged Nez Perce youth are here to
devote some of their summer days to learning about math and science.
They come from throughout the region to spend about 7 hours each day doing a
mix of assignments, homework, and physical activity. On the last day, July
26, a luncheon for students and parents will be held and awards will be
presented.
While money for the camp comes mainly from the Tribe’s Environmental
Restoration and Waste Management Program, the tribe also receives
grant dollars through the Salish-Kootenai College, a tribal college in
Western Montana.
LCSC is proud to help the Nez PerceTribe provide their young people with
opportunity. Hosting PACE Camp is a good example of the how the college
meets the diverse needs of the people of North Central Idaho.
