Campus Health Fair a Real Success

Well put together, well attended and well worth the effort all describe the 13th Annual Community Health Fair which took place March 7 and 8 at the Williams Conference Center on LCSC's campus.

With 10 sponsors including LCSC, the event was designed to provide students from the college as well as members of the community with a broad range of health information and assessments. There was no charge for admission and most assessments were free. The few that cost something were offered at a minimal charge.

A few of the assessments offered: blood sugar, pressure and hemoglobin checks, bone density screening, body composition, prostate and breast exams, skin and colon cancer screening and protection information, massage therapy and spinal analysis. Guest speakers Maureen Sprague, a registered dietician, and Dr. Arnold Kadrmas, Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry, were on the agenda as well.

Evidence was everywhere that a lot of work, planning and caring went into producing this year's fair. It was heavily advertised beforehand, signage made the event was easy to find and each booth offered written information as well as knowledgeable people to talk with. To top things off, a selection of complimentary snacks was offered by local businesses.

Attendee Harriet Husemann said, "It was a gratifying sight to see the range and number of people in attendance. Elderly people, students of many races, husky workmen, pregnant ladies; all of these diverse groups were represented." Husemann and other attendees labeled the event top notch and a rousing success, and offered a well-deserved "hats-off" to all of the sponsors.
