Local Entrepreneur Wins
Small Business Award
LEWISTON—Entrepreneurship has always been one of our
nation’s cherished ideals. Each year the Small Business Association (SBA)
recognizes outstanding small business owners for personal achievements and
business accomplishments through the SBA’s national Small Business Person of
the Year Award Program.
This year, Peggy Foster of Headmasters School of Hair Design in Lewiston
will be honored as the SBA Small Business Person of the Year 2002. The
Region II Idaho Small Business Development Center (ISBDC), located at
Lewis-Clark State and the Spokane District SBA office will present the
award.
Foster directs a cosmetology school with a 100% state board pass rate and
near 100% graduate placement rate. The ISBDC, in conjunction with the
Spokane SBA District Office, will present Peggy with her award at their
quarterly advisory committee luncheon, June 13, 2002 at 11:30 a.m. in LCSC’s
Student Union Building, room 143.
The Spokane District Office participates in the SBA’s national award program
by recognizing small business owners from 20 counties in Eastern Washington
and 10 counties in Northern Idaho. Nominations are submitted to the SBA
Spokane office for area awards and winners are selected according to their
record of stability, growth in employment and sales, financial condition,
innovation, response to adversity, and community service. Winners of area
honors can compete for district, state and national SBA awards.
“The SBA Spokane District Office proudly recognizes our area award winners
as models of free enterprise – the heart and sole of America,” said Ted
Schinzel, Acting District Director of Spokane’s SBA Office. “Even in the
best economic climate, it is not easy to run a small business. It takes an
enormous amount of work, energy, creativity, and determination. Successful
small businesses not only serve as the backbone of the economy; they anchor
communities. They benefit everyone by creating jobs, building wealth,
strengthening families, and paving the way for a strong economy.”
