Enterprising LCSC Student
Plans Unusual Summer
Bright, ambitious and versatile, LCSC’s Jamie Beck will not
be lazing around during the coming summer. Beck, currently a third year
student working towards a degree in publishing arts and minoring in French,
will study abroad for a month at the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France.
She is the recipient of the $1700 Bernfield Scholarship award for study of
the French language, which will help fund the considerable expense of this
total immersion study opportunity.
the overseas study, Jamie, a past member of the National Honor Society who
has also been on the Dean’s List for academic achievement, will head to
Alaska to address the very real need for earning money to help fund her
final year at LCSC. If things go well, she will get a summer internship with
a fishing magazine there. If this doesn’t happen, she will work in a fish
cannery or at a lodge. In her words, “The hours are long but the money can
be really worth it, especially if the silver salmon season is a good one.”
Jamie is the daughter of Randy and Sue Beck of Lewiston. The Becks are
longtime residents of Lewiston; her father is familiar to many as the owner
of Beck Travel, a travel agency that operated in the valley for years.
After graduation in spring of 2003, Jamie hopes to put her publishing arts
degree to work in a position with a magazine. Good luck, Jamie! You’ve got
what it takes.
