OBT Students Take
National Awards
Seven outstanding LCSC students won 12 awards at the 36th
Annual Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in
Chicago May 8 - 12.
Deanna Anderst (Lewiston) won 6th place in Fundamental Accounting and 9th in
Banking and Finance. Christine Buzga (Troy ID) was 7th in Desktop
Publishing, 5th in Keyboarding Production and 2nd in Basic Office Systems
and Procedures. Mandy Fowler (Craigmont ID) was the 1st place winner in
Advanced Word Processing Skills and Legal Office Procedures categories.
Deanna Gibler (Alaska) was 3rd in Payroll Accounting and 4th in Computerized
Accounting. Sergei Nazarenko (Colton WA) was 11th in the International
Business category. Jeff Wykoff (Moscow ID) won 12th in Visual Basic
Programmer and Bentley Hall, (Scottsdale AZ), Wykoff and Nazarenko were 8th
in the Website Development Team category.
Advisors Sue Gudmunson and Rhonda Combs accompanied the students, who raised
the funds to pay for this opportunity to compete with 5,000 other students
from across the nation.
Students earned the right to compete at the national level by winning top
awards in state competition in Boise in March. Advsior Rhonda Combs said,
"The level of success they achieved demonstrates the quality preparation
they received in LCSC's Office and Business Technology Program."
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school
and college students preparing for careers in business and office
occupations. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom
instruction by giving students practical experience through application of
the skills learned at school.
