President Thomas Reviews Teresa Jordan's
Riding the White Horse Home

At Tuesday's session of Fall Semester Books in Review, Lewis-Clark State President, Dene Kay Thomas gave a thoughtful review of Teresa Jordan's Riding the White Horse Home: A Western Family Album. Following her presentation, she and the audience shared stories brought to mind by the book's focus on a sense of place as part of individual history.

Thomas said that in this book, the author tells of using her intellectual and emotional attachment to land and family as a way of understanding herself, and praised Jordan's writing for having the power to evoke personal stories in her readers.

Jordan's writing will be in the public eye twice more this month. First, as a part of the community program, "What If Everybody Read the Same Book?", Riding the White Horse Home will be the topic of a panel discussion to be held at Lewiston's Tseminicum Library at noon on October 11. LCSC's Literature and Languages Division Chair, Bernice Harris, will be a member of that panel.

This year's Stegner Lecture will also feature Jordan as a speaker. In honor of western writer Wallace Stegner, the annual event showcases writers and topics of the American West. It will be held October 19th at the Center for Arts and History at 7:00 p.m. There are no admission charges for any of the events and the public is invited.
